Have you seen anything more lovely than a tree?

I stumbled upon this beautiful poem when I was surfing Zaytuna.org website. I simply fell in love with it. It made me fell humbled by Allah’s simple creations in nature who unlike me performs its duties in faithfully and lives and dies in dignity.

For a simple tree not only provides us shade, but also habitat for other species, starting a food source for humans and animals, providing carbon sinks to extract one of the major greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, stabilizing the soil to prevent erosion, creating natural water filters and continues in dzikr and remembrance of Allah.

A true multi tasker. I will never see trees in the same light anymore.

 A Tree Knelt In Praise
By Shaykh Hamza Yusuf

I know that I shall never see
A poem that bows quite like our tree
A tree who like us loved to pray
In adoration every day

A tree who humbly knelt in praise
To God and never chose to raise
Itself above the other trees
Instead remained as if on knees

A tree who gave our scholars shade
And never asked that it be paid
A tree whose needles never hurt
But gently fell upon the dirt

A tree whose worth cannot be told
Or ever lent or bought with gold
A tree who showed us all its height
With God by bowing with delight

It taught us all to clearly see
A Garden lies beneath a tree
And then it showed us with a sigh
That trees, like us, must also die

In an age of folly, play and mirth
A tree has died with brow on earth

-Shaykh Hamza Yusuf / March 2005

I am but a humble servant aspiring to be half as useful as a tree.

Love,

P/s: I want to be a date palm.
